Plan the plumbing before the station arrives

A garage, laundry room, mudroom, or utility room usually makes sense because these spaces may already have nearby supply lines, a floor drain, a laundry standpipe, or an accessible drain branch. They also tolerate wet paws better than a finished bathroom.
Measure more than the footprint of the wash station. Leave working room around the open frame, especially near the drain outlet and supply connections. Drainage deserves more attention than water supply because a dog wash station moves hair, soap, dirt, and a large volume of water in a short period. The drain must carry that water away without leaking, backing up, or allowing sewer gas into the room.
Start at the basin outlet. Install the supplied drain components and gasket exactly as directed, then tighten the assembly enough to seal without distorting the gasket or damaging threads. Stainless basins and drain bodies are durable, but overtightening is not a substitute for proper alignment.
From the outlet, the drain hose or rigid pipe needs a continuous downhill route to the waste connection. Corrugated drain hoses are useful where a station needs a flexible, inspectable path, but they should not sag. Low spots hold hair and soapy residue, which eventually restricts flow. Support the hose so it slopes steadily and remains visible for cleaning.
A permanent drain connection generally needs a P-trap. The trap holds water that blocks sewer gas from coming back through the drain. Do not omit it, and do not use an S-trap as a shortcut. An S-trap can siphon itself dry and is not accepted by modern plumbing codes.
The trap also needs proper venting. A vent allows air to enter the drainage system so water can flow without pulling the trap seal away.
